Can I Learn Chinese Without Any Prior Knowledge?
Absolutely! Learning Mandarin Chinese is accessible to everyone, regardless of your starting point. Contrary to popular belief, Chinese grammar is quite straightforward—there's no need to worry about noun genders, case endings, or verb conjugations. Initially, Chinese characters may seem daunting, but with tools like TianZiGe (a practice sheet for writing characters) and consistent practice, you'll find that many characters are pictorial and represent what they mean. Our courses are designed to progress at a comfortable pace, enabling students to engage confidently in both social and basic business conversations after completing the first three beginner levels.
Is Attendance at Your Studio Required for Classes?
At Han Hai Language Studios, we cater to a variety of learning preferences and schedules. You have the option to attend small group sessions, private one-on-one, or one-to-two classes at our studio. Alternatively, we can arrange for an instructor to teach at a location of your choosing. For those who travel frequently, we recommend our flexible one-on-one private packages, which can be customized to fit your schedule.
What If I Miss a Class Due to Travel?
We understand that plans change, which is why we offer up to three free make-up sessions per level, per course for small group classes, provided there's availability. These make-up sessions are available only to students who have enrolled in the full level and informed us before or during course registration. If you miss a session and no suitable make-up classes are available, you may opt for private make-up classes at a rate of $50 per hour, for a maximum of two hours per course.
How Do I Enroll?
Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. You can register online or by visiting our office to fill out the registration form. If you're uncertain about which class is right for you, we offer free consultations to help you decide. Alternatively, you can explore our full range of courses on our website and conveniently register and pay online. What Are My Payment Options? Are Course Materials Included?
Your tuition can be settled through various methods, including cash, cheque (payable to GTJ Education Holdings Pte Ltd), bank transfer to our account at OCBC, NETs, Credit Cards, or PayPal (with a 5% surcharge). Please note that your enrollment is confirmed only after we receive your payment.
When Will I Receive My Textbooks?
Your textbooks and any other course materials will be provided on the first day of your class for all face-to-face classes. Should you wish to collect them earlier or receive them by courier, please contact us to make arrangements.
What Is Your Refund and Transfer Policy?
We offer refunds under specific conditions: a 100% refund for cancellations more than seven days before commencement, a 75% refund for 3-6 days prior, and no refund for less than three days notice. Transfers to another class are possible with a $50 fee, provided you notify us two weeks in advance.
Do I Need to Take an Entrance Test?
If you're an absolute beginner, no entrance test is required. For those with previous experience in Chinese, we offer a simple assessment to ensure you're placed in the most suitable class.
What Is the Average Class Size?
Our small group classes maintain an intimate learning environment with 3 to 6 students per class.
